I downloaded and installed the full version of fedora 12 onto a virtual machine….

it powered up found the legacy nic as prescribed BUT when booting i would get 4 ping replies and then constant timeouts

also i could not ping out from the guest vm at all….

very strange and i hear you say firewall and /or network configuration

well yes indeed i turned off the firewall/disabled ipchains and ip6chains/verified ip configuration

all was ok….

well it turned out to be that i had to virtual CPU allocated against the box (without hyper-v IC’s or kernel 2.6.32 installed)

and it killed the network subsystem!

so lesson learned build a linux machine with 1 vCPU 🙂
